Job Description
The role involves designing and building data platform infrastructure to enable efficient discovery, understanding, and access to data for engineering and data science teams within a clean energy startup focused on AI-driven power sector solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement data cataloging infrastructure for data discovery and understanding
- Build lineage capabilities to trace data provenance and flow
- Define and implement consistent data access patterns and libraries for various engineering teams
- Create self-serve tooling to facilitate easy data access and usage
- Contribute to the development of EQ's data ontology to align infrastructure with company data models
- Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure infrastructure supports pipeline maintenance
- Engage with teams to understand data usage, identify pain points, and develop valuable capabilities
- Stay current with data platform innovations and incorporate relevant advancements
- Participate in on-call rotations and contribute to operational excellence of the data platform
Requirements
- 7 years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on data infrastructure
- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
- Experience with modern data stack components such as Databricks, Spark, dbt, or similar
- Experience designing and building internal platforms, frameworks, or libraries used by other engineers
- Familiarity with data cataloging, metadata management, or lineage tools e.g., DataHub, Amundsen, Unity Catalog, OpenLineage
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Dagster, Airflow, or similar
- Ability to work across teams and translate diverse requirements into coherent platform capabilities
- Strong communication skills for collaborating within a remote-first team that works internationally across timezones
- Experience with and enthusiasm for AI-assisted development
