Job Description

The Vessel Operator role involves supporting port operations by managing vessel docking, loading, and safety procedures, as well as handling equipment and ensuring quality control in a renewable energy company specializing in sustainable wood bioenergy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe docking, undocking, and mooring of vessels
  • Handle lines during docking and undocking processes
  • Operate control room systems to manage vessel loading and gate control
  • Operate heavy equipment on vessels, including loaders and cranes
  • Complete man overboard training and vessel shifting requirements
  • Load barges and set up systems for limestone transfer
  • Receive and record pellet deliveries at the port for accurate billing
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of scale areas and ensure load safety criteria are met
  • Communicate professionally with suppliers
  • Operate shuttle wagons as directed
  • Collect samples, test finished goods, and maintain QA/QC records
  • Analyze equipment performance and make adjustments to ensure quality and throughput
  • Operate mobile equipment such as Bobcat and Lull for dust collection and area maintenance
  • Complete safety certifications and follow safety procedures
  • Enter maintenance work requests and escalate issues as needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or able to complete GED requirements with six months of hire
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions
  • Proficient in mathematics and measurement
  • Team player demonstrated with past work experience or activities
  • Ability to work multiple shift schedules to support 24x7 operations
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
  • Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
  • Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
