The Vessel Operator role involves supporting port operations by managing vessel docking, loading, and safety procedures, as well as handling equipment and ensuring quality control in a renewable energy company specializing in sustainable wood bioenergy solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure safe docking, undocking, and mooring of vessels
Handle lines during docking and undocking processes
Operate control room systems to manage vessel loading and gate control
Operate heavy equipment on vessels, including loaders and cranes
Complete man overboard training and vessel shifting requirements
Load barges and set up systems for limestone transfer
Receive and record pellet deliveries at the port for accurate billing
Maintain safety and cleanliness of scale areas and ensure load safety criteria are met
Communicate professionally with suppliers
Operate shuttle wagons as directed
Collect samples, test finished goods, and maintain QA/QC records
Analyze equipment performance and make adjustments to ensure quality and throughput
Operate mobile equipment such as Bobcat and Lull for dust collection and area maintenance
Complete safety certifications and follow safety procedures
Enter maintenance work requests and escalate issues as needed
Requirements
High school diploma or able to complete GED requirements with six months of hire
Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions
Proficient in mathematics and measurement
Team player demonstrated with past work experience or activities
Ability to work multiple shift schedules to support 24x7 operations
Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees
Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment
Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment
Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day
Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery
Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards
