The Control Room Operator monitors and manages plant systems to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of a renewable wood bioenergy facility, responding to alarms, adjusting processes, and maintaining safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Operate plant functions from the control room, including managing feed systems, furnace, dryer, and pellet presses.
Monitor system indicators, alarms, production rates, and equipment status to ensure continuous and safe plant operation.
Adjust production line processes based on monitored data and signals.
Maintain equipment temperature, safety standards, and operational schedules.
Assess and resolve equipment malfunctions and system issues using technical skills.
Communicate with team members and respond to alarms and radio commands.
Operate and interpret HMI touch screens and computer systems to control plant operations.
Requirements
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and written procedures.
Ability to use basic hand tools.
Must possess basic computer math skills.
Able to learn how to operate HMI touch screens.
Strong aptitude in math ability to use addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to perform flow, pressure, performance and meter calculations.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
High school diploma or GED.
Experience in wood products, furnace dryer operations, or similar manufacturing environment.
Must be able to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 degrees and below 32 degrees.
Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold and noisy industrial environment.
Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
Occasionally walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.
Ability to work shift assignments up to 12 hours that include weekends, nights or rotating shifts.
Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve hours a day.
Willing and able to work around moving equipment and machinery.
Willing and able to pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
Be comfortable climbing ladders, conveyors, working at heights and on steel grating.
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting productivity standards.
