Job Description

The Senior Data Engineer at EnergyHub is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining large-scale data processing systems to support virtual power plant operations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize energy management and decarbonization efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement processes for ingesting, processing, observing, and maintaining billions of data points with performance, accuracy, security, and compliance in mind
  • Manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake data platform
  • Architect data schemas and data flow collaboratively to support data operations
  • Collaborate with teams to balance business priorities and technical reliability
  • Monitor and optimize cloud costs related to data infrastructure
  • Mentor and train team members and cross-functional partners in data engineering best practices
  • Build and maintain scalable, high-performance data systems and pipelines
  • Ensure data security, quality, and compliance throughout the data lifecycle

Requirements

  • A storied career in data engineering, with experience in scaling systems multiple times over and a solid archive of well-architected systems and analyses.
  • Proven proficiency with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Docker, Fivetran, Hightouch, Sigma, Jira, Confluence, Slack, or comparable tools, demonstrating the ability to manage and utilize these technologies effectively.
  • Experience designing processes for ingesting, processing, observing, and maintaining billions of data points with performance, accuracy, security, and compliance in mind, considering the full data lifecycle.
  • Ability to manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake instances, including architecting schema and data flow through collaborative and inclusive processes.
  • Strong understanding of the difference between OLAP and OLTP RDBMS systems, with demonstrable experience planning and implementing high-performance data processes using both types of systems.
  • Experience monitoring cloud costs across various tools to maintain efficiency and justify expenses.
  • Excellent skills in SQL and Python, with the ability to bring clarity and sanity to syntactic complexity.
  • A proactive approach to observability, ensuring relevant details are logged for rapid troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering teams, product teams, support, and business partners, building and maintaining relationships across diverse teams.
  • Strong communication skills, with a penchant for concise clarity in communication, code, and documentation.
  • A warm and inclusive attitude towards colleagues and collaborators, with an urge to help others succeed and pay forward generosity.
  • Experience in architecting and implementing high-performance data systems, with a focus on quality and performance in all work.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, supporting team goals and mentoring others as needed.
  • Physical ability to work fully from the office in Krakow, Poland, with occasional remote work flexibility.
  • Understanding of data security, roles, and access management in cloud environments.
  • A demonstrated obsession with quality, performance, and security in data engineering tasks.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned, indicating flexibility and adaptability.
