Job Description
The Senior Data Engineer at EnergyHub will design, develop, and maintain large-scale data processing systems to support virtual power plant operations, collaborating with cross-functional teams to manage billions of data points and optimize energy management solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and manage data ingestion, processing, and storage processes for billions of data points with a focus on performance, security, and compliance
- Manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake data platform
- Architect data schemas and data flow collaboratively across teams
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to balance business priorities and technical reliability
- Monitor and optimize cloud costs associated with data tools and infrastructure
- Mentor and train team members and other stakeholders in data engineering best practices
- Build and maintain scalable, high-performance data systems and pipelines
- Ensure data quality, observability, and troubleshooting capabilities for data processes
- Develop and implement strategies for data lifecycle management and security
Requirements
- Proven proficiency with AWS, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Docker, Fivetran, Hightouch, Sigma, Jira, Confluence, Slack, or comparable counterparts, at least
- A storied career in data engineering, with experience in scaling systems many times over and handling unexpected data scenarios
- Experience designing processes for ingesting, processing, observing, and maintaining billions of data points with performance, accuracy, security, and compliance in mind
- Ability to manage access, roles, and security for Snowflake instances
- Experience architecting schema and data flow through a collaborative and inclusive process
- Ability to collaborate with team and product to balance business-driven and team-driven priorities to maximize velocity and reliability
- Experience monitoring cloud costs across the toolset to maintain efficiency and justify expenses
- Mentoring and training team members and other business units
- Building and maintaining relationships with diverse partner teams, including engineering, operations, and business development
- A proven track record in data engineering, including solidly-architected systems and thorough analyses
- Obsessive drive for quality and performance in all work
- Excellent communication skills, including clarity in code, documentation, and verbal explanations
- Warmth and inclusiveness in collaboration, with a desire to help colleagues succeed
- Understanding of the difference between OLAP and OLTP RDBMS systems, with experience planning and implementing high-performance data processes using both
- Proactive approach to observability, ensuring relevant details are logged for rapid troubleshooting
- Proficiency in SQL and Python, with the ability to clarify and simplify complex syntax
- Ability to bring clarity and sanity to syntactic complexity in code and documentation
- Ability to work in a team environment with a collaborative attitude
- Physical and mental capacity to work in an office environment, with occasional remote work flexibility
