Job Description
A Senior Software Product Owner responsible for leading the development and management of complex software ecosystems, implementing Agile processes, and translating business needs into technical solutions to support energy and water-use savings initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead assessment of product opportunities and risks, including providing cost estimates
- Implement and improve Agile processes in a hybrid planning environment
- Manage and prioritize a complex product backlog in collaboration with stakeholders
- Design products by preparing functional specifications and guiding prototyping
- Translate customer needs into actionable plans for engineering and design teams
- Establish and maintain product roadmaps and monitor platform health and initiatives
- Meet with stakeholders to discuss application functionality and gather requirements
- Own and refine user stories and epics in Jira to translate requirements into development tasks
- Monitor software development progress to ensure business expectations are met
- Define and track product metrics to optimize effectiveness
- Lead efforts to develop and coach product owners and business analysts
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or other engineering degree.
- 10 years of experience as a product owner successfully delivering multiple products through a complete Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC) lifecycle.
- 10 years of experience working with software developers, understanding the process of effective delivery and release of software.
- Leadership experience managing small teams of 3 to 5 junior product owners and business system analysts.
- Good technical analyst skills translating business needs into technical specifications.
- Proven experience in working on data-focused product development and a good understanding of defining KPIs for product development.
- Strong communication skills, especially adept at communicating effectively between non-technical users and software developers.
- Experience managing a complex backlog in collaboration with business and technology stakeholders, including building a standardized process for managing backlog and future work requests.
- Experience leading assessment of product opportunities and risks, including providing cost estimates.
- Experience leading Agile process implementation and improvement in a hybrid planning environment.
- Ability to manage and own features end-to-end, including preparing well-documented functional specifications and workflows, guiding product prototyping and proof of concepts, and translating customer needs into actionable plans for engineering and design teams.
- Ability to establish and maintain product roadmaps including platform health and customer initiatives.
- Experience meeting with business stakeholders to discuss application functionality related to enterprise-wide or specific program initiatives due to contractual agreements.
- Experience conducting or participating in meetings to identify requirements and providing feedback to ensure technology applications support customer needs.
- Ownership and refinement of user stories and epics in Jira, translating product requirements into work that is actionable by the development team.
- Monitoring progress of software development efforts to ensure business expectations are met and barriers are minimized.
- Leading efforts to define product metrics to optimize product effectiveness.
- Experience coaching other product owners and business systems analysts.
- Ability to develop and implement processes for software development, define standards for artifacts, develop metrics for planning and monitoring execution, develop roadmaps, and assist in resource forecasting.
- Willingness to work onsite at least 1 day per week (currently Wednesdays) at one of the specified office locations (Oakland, CA; Orange, CA; Portland, OR; Chicago, IL; Boston, MA).
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without restrictions (background check, drug screen, and work authorization required).
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of 107,000 to 140,000 USD, with a target of 126,000 USD
Hybrid work schedule with at least 1 day onsite per week (currently Wednesdays)
