Job Description
The Traveling Field Service Technician performs preventative and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, troubleshooting electrical issues, conducting tests, and ensuring safety protocols are followed, while traveling frequently to various sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, voltage, grounding, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain tools, meters, vehicles, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document major issues and downtime
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards in the work environment
- Respond to emergency maintenance cases as needed
Requirements
- Possess a valid Driver's License.
- Have 3-4 years of experience in PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring.
- Be NABCEP Certified Installation Professional.
- Have experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Be skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, IV Curve Tracing, Meggers, and Ground Fault Detection.
- Have diagnostic capabilities to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems.
- Possess knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Be able to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Be proficient with MS Office suite.
- Hold OSHA 10 HR Training certification.
- Have NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace and Lockout Tagout procedures knowledge.
- Be willing and able to travel up to 80%.
- Work in the field and in the office, demonstrating excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Understand and adhere to safety and quality procedures and practices.
- Wear PPE personal protective equipment including hard hat, arc flash protection, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
- Be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
