Job Description
The Traveling Field Service Technician performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of utility-scale solar PV systems in remote outdoor environments, ensuring safe and efficient operation across multiple sites. The role involves hands-on technical work, frequent travel, and adherence to safety standards to support the company's solar assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar PV systems on-site
- Conduct DC and AC testing, including polarity, open circuit voltage, grounding, communication, insulation resistance, and I-V curve tracing
- Maintain vehicle, tools, meters, and spare parts inventory
- Create service reports and document major issues and downtime
- Identify and eliminate safety hazards in the work environment
- Respond to emergency maintenance cases as directed
- Travel frequently to various sites to perform maintenance and repairs
Requirements
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 80%.
- Experience with PV maintenance, including PV DC operations, AC medium voltage systems, network communications, and monitoring, with 3-4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience conducting PV maintenance activities such as DC systems, AC medium voltage systems, and network communications and monitoring.
- Skilled in the use of testing equipment and tools such as Thermographic Electrical Inspection, IV Curve Tracing, Meggers, Ground Fault Detection.
- Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems found in PV systems through diagnostic capabilities.
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and standard design construction practices.
- Ability to read and understand electrical single-line and three-line diagrams.
- Proficiency with MS Office suite.
- Possession of OSHA 10 HR Training certification.
- Certification as NABCEP Certified Installation Professional.
- Experience with operation of SCADA, DAS, and UPS systems.
- Physical ability to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day.
- Physical ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Ability to identify safety hazards and take appropriate action to remove or eliminate hazards.
- Ability to create service reports and maintain spare parts inventory.
- Ability to work in remote outdoor environments and perform hands-on troubleshooting.
- Adherence to safety and quality procedures and practices, including PPE use such as hard hat, arc flash protection, safety glasses, hearing protection.
- Understanding of and adherence to safety standards and procedures, including Lockout Tagout procedures and NFPA 70E Standard for Electrical Safety in the workplace.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to work in the field and in the office as required.
