Job Description
The Visual Dimensional Inspector performs visual and dimensional inspections of aerospace and marine gas turbine engine components to ensure airworthiness and compliance with OEM standards, supporting quality assurance during receiving, in-process, and final inspections in a modern, safety-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Visually inspect aerospace and marine gas turbine engine components for damage, wear, corrosion, and other defects.
- Measure component dimensions using various inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, surface gages, and dial-indicator gages.
- Assess whether parts meet standards for serviceability, reparability, and overhaul condition based on OEM and industry standards.
- Interpret OEM manuals, instructions, and industry standards to ensure compliance and proper inspection procedures.
- Document inspection findings accurately in reports, including details on location, size, and acceptability of features.
- Review customer purchase orders, vendor documentation, and internal records to verify component compliance.
- Report and communicate inspection results clearly to relevant teams, noting any discrepancies or required corrections.
- Collaborate with engineering on new procedures and repairs to support continuous improvement in inspection processes.
Requirements
- Two years of experience in aircraft maintenance, or similar experience in the civilian or military fields, or an applicable technical accreditation in a machine shop, manufacturing environment, mechanical engineering, or journeyman certificate.
- Exposure to visual inspection methods, techniques, practices, and aids that are appropriate for the article being inspected.
- Proficiency in the use of various gages to include calipers, borescopes, micrometers, optical or electronic comparators.
- General knowledge of turbine engine components, functions, repairs, and shop processes.
- High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
- Previous experience, familiarity, or exposure with measuring gages such as calipers and micrometers.
- The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Motivated, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work in a team environment.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
