Job Description

The Tool Room Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Tooling Department, including machining, tooling development, and team supervision, to ensure the repair and overhaul of turbine jet engine components are performed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee safety and well-being of the tooling team and ensure adherence to company standards.
  • Monitor and review completed work to ensure compliance with scope and expectations.
  • Develop and perform machining processes for turbine engine components and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot tooling and fixture issues, conceptualize solutions, and participate in problem-solving efforts.
  • Coordinate with engineers and team members to improve machining skills, final products, and repair processes.
  • Participate in repair development projects for new engine programs.
  • Follow work instructions, sketches, and use shop math and trigonometry for machining tasks.
  • Record findings and maintain documentation of work processes and issues.
  • Contribute to employee training and development programs.
  • Participate in production runs, troubleshoot, and develop tooling across departments.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in Tool Room supervisory role in a manufacturing environment or aviation maintenance.
  • Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of shop drawings and work scope instructions.
  • Five (5) years Tool Room experience or similar as a machinist with knowledge or familiarity in one, all, or a combination of the following: manual lathe setup and operation, CNC mill setup and operation, Bridgeport setup and operation.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in creative problem solving related to machine setups, tooling, and fixturing.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in understanding GD T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and reading and interpreting shop drawings and technical diagrams.
  • Experience in working with high strength alloy metals.
  • Technical high school diploma, machinist trade school certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • Set-up experience with tooling and fixtures, with the ability to follow instructions per technical drawings or work instructions.
  • Familiarity with shop math principles and basic trigonometry.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, understand English, and communicate effectively with other employees.
  • Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
  • Ability to stand and/or sit for portions of the shift.
  • Ability to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods, and to move lighter parts weighing up to 50 pounds with or without such equipment.
