Job Description
The NDT Supervisor leads a skilled team in performing various non-destructive testing methods on aerospace turbine engine components, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with industry standards while managing daily operations and personnel in a state-of-the-art facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor NDT team to ensure safety, quality, and adherence to work scope.
- Assign, verify, track, and monitor NDT tasks using computer software.
- Oversee NDT inspections and processing of parts in accordance with OEM procedures.
- Ensure proper setup, interpretation, and documentation of NDT results.
- Maintain proficiency and perform duties of a Level II NDT technician.
- Coordinate with Level III and management to relay guidance and process improvements.
- Manage personnel schedules, work hours, and conduct performance reviews.
- Conduct regular team meetings and communicate changes effectively.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory or similar type responsibility.
- Technical competencies and familiarity in NDT procedures with inspection experience preferred.
- The ability to interpret and follow written and verbal instructions accurately, including reading and interpretation of shop drawings.
- Ability to effectively communicate, motivate team members, and multitask daily.
- Shown a previous ability to successfully pass skill level tests in other trades or disciplines.
- Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
- Ability to pass the two vision tests including the Ishihara Color Certification and Jaeger Reading Certification as required per NAS410.
- Complete the on-the-job training program and NAS410 certification requirements for a Level II certification in one of the five NDT methods used at CRT and maintain proficiency thereof, including performing the duties of a certified Level II from time-to-time.
- Oversee NDT inspections in accordance with the manufacturers original equipment manual (OEM) procedures in all applicable NDT methods used at CRT.
- Ensure the proper setup and oversee the processing of parts for MPI and FPI, ensuring proper interpretation and evaluation for acceptance or rejection, and accurate recording and documentation of results.
- Monitor that each department employee has a thorough understanding of the scope and limitations of the technique or method used for part certification.
- Ensure system performance checks are performed in accordance with the applicable process standards.
- Receive guidance from the designated Level III in various processing methods and relay said information to team members in a timely and understandable manner.
- High school graduate, technical school completion, military, or similar experience.
- A minimum of some college-level courses or similar in areas such as metallurgy, welding engineering, airframe repair, and manufacturing processes.
- Previous experience and/or the ability to perform mathematical operations, including working with decimals, fractions, and basic shop math.
- Previous experience or familiarity with measuring gauges such as calipers and micrometers.
- Work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift, and move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
- Occasionally use powered and hand-held tools.
- Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection when required.
- Pre-employment vision testing including color perception and near vision standards as per NAS410.
- Ability to obtain prior permission for all shift early reports due to the complexity of processing parts.
