Job Description

The Blast Technician operates abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare turbine engine components for repairs and painting, following safety protocols and working alongside experienced team members to develop skills and take on additional responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow safety protocols and company safety policies
  • Perform blast techniques on turbine engine components using various equipment
  • Prepare parts for blasting through masking and taping
  • Set up and operate blast machines according to work instructions and specifications
  • Secure supplies, tooling, and blast products before operation
  • Inspect and maintain blast equipment regularly
  • Clean, adjust, and maintain equipment using hand tools
  • Utilize overhead cranes and lifting equipment for handling parts
  • Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately
  • Communicate work-related issues with supervisors or other departments

Requirements

  • Two years work experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with and or a familiarity with pressure gauges.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
  • Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes from the reading of work instructions.
  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing, vision exam, and respirator fit test.
  • Ability to work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
  • Ability to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
  • Ability to move less heavy parts weighing up to 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
  • Able to work in enclosed spaces.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment including safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, and supplied air respirator under some conditions.
  • Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection, and wear additional PPE as required.
  • Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
