The Blast Technician operates abrasive blasting equipment to clean and prepare turbine engine components, following safety protocols and work instructions, while gaining skills and responsibilities through training and hands-on experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Follow safety protocols and company safety policies.
Perform blast techniques on turbine engine components using various equipment and media.
Prepare parts for blasting through masking and taping.
Set up and operate blast machines according to work instructions and specifications.
Secure supplies, tooling, and parts prior to blasting operations.
Inspect and maintain blast equipment regularly.
Clean, adjust, and maintain equipment using hand tools.
Utilize overhead cranes and lifting equipment during operations.
Follow written and verbal work instructions accurately.
Communicate work-related issues with supervisors and other departments.
Requirements
Two years work experience in a manufacturing setting.
Experience with and or a familiarity with pressure gauges.
Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes from the reading of work instructions.
High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.
Careful attention to detail.
Capable of handling multiple tasks.
Basic knowledge of computers and standard software programs.
Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Pre-employment testing requirements that may include fitness for duty testing, vision exam, and respirator fit test.
Ability to work in varying positions, including standing and sitting for portions of the shift.
Ability to move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
Ability to move less heavy parts weighing up to 50 pounds with or without hoists, slings, or carts.
Able to work in enclosed spaces.
Use of safety and personal protective equipment including safety glasses, TyVek jumpsuit, supplied air respirator, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection as required.
Follow general shop safety procedures and wear additional PPE as required.
Occasionally use powered and non-powered hand tools.
