Job Description

The General Manager of the SPARC Plant is responsible for leading the operation and commissioning of a pioneering fusion energy facility, ensuring its success in demonstrating net-energy gain and advancing commercial fusion technology through team leadership and facility management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage the SPARC fusion facility to ensure successful net-energy demonstration and inform future design efforts.
  • Maximize facility uptime and scientific/engineering progress at the fusion plant.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team to operate the SPARC facility, leveraging internal staff and global partners.

Requirements

  • Experience in operating and managing a large-scale scientific or engineering facility, preferably in fusion energy or related high-tech industries.
  • Proven ability to build and lead a world-class team that operates complex scientific or engineering systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in moving a project or facility from the design and building phase to commissioning and operational phases.
  • Strong leadership skills to ensure the timely success of a net-energy demonstration and to inform future design efforts.
  • Ability to maximize facility uptime and ensure continuous scientific and engineering progress at a major fusion facility.
  • Experience in overseeing the construction, assembly, and testing of complex technical components and systems, such as superconducting magnets, tokamak components, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with fusion energy technologies, particularly superconducting magnets and tokamak systems, is preferred.
  • Ability to harness and coordinate knowledge and skills of staff and international partners to achieve project goals.
  • Compliance with U.S. laws concerning the export of controlled or protected technologies or information, including Export Control Laws.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid environment, combining on-site and remote work as required.
