A Field Mechanical Engineer at Commonwealth Fusion Systems is responsible for overseeing and supporting the assembly process of the SPARC Tokamak, solving complex mechanical challenges, guiding technicians, and ensuring the smooth integration of large, precision components in a fast-paced, on-site environment.
Key Responsibilities
Guide technicians through assembly issues and develop solutions to maintain workflow
Ensure availability of necessary tools by procuring or designing small tools and fixtures
Collaborate with adjacent teams to implement process changes and assist with precision alignment of components
Oversee and coordinate the assembly of large, complex parts to ensure smooth progress
Apply engineering knowledge to solve complex challenges during the assembly process
Requirements
Proven experience in mechanical engineering, assembly, or a related field, with the ability to guide technicians and solve complex assembly challenges.
Ability to proactively ensure that all necessary tools, whether off-the-shelf or custom-designed and built, are available for assembly tasks.
Experience collaborating closely with cross-functional teams such as assembly process teams and metrology teams to incorporate process changes and assist with precision alignment of coils and other key structures.
On-site presence at the CFS-2 facility in Devens, MA, working in the central construction hall on the SPARC Tokamak assembly process.
Strong engineering skills and knowledge to manage and solve complex challenges during the assembly process of large, multi-million dollar components.
Ability to guide the assembly of large, complex parts, ensuring smooth and efficient process flow.
