The Mechanical Engineer Cable Magnets will design and support the development of complex magnet components for fusion reactors, working through all stages of the product lifecycle and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure performance in extreme environments.
Key Responsibilities
Design components supporting the primary magnet systems used to shape and drive plasma in fusion devices.
Develop and analyze mechanical designs using CAD, including performing analysis and simulations.
Support fabrication methods such as composite layups, welding, forming, and machining for high-vacuum, cryogenic environments.
Manage all stages of the product lifecycle from initial design to production support and testing.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and broader organizational needs.
Present design concepts and technical information to peers and leadership to demonstrate objectives and resolve concerns.
Requirements
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience in designing mechanical components for systems operating in extreme environments such as high vacuum and near absolute zero temperatures.
Proficiency in CAD software for designing components and performing analysis.
Experience with fabrication methods including composite layups, welding, forming, and machining.
Ability to support all stages of the product lifecycle, including blank-page design, sourcing, vendor support, testing, production, and peer review.
Experience working on complex mechanical systems, specifically magnet systems used to shape and drive plasma in fusion devices.
Ability to work closely with teammates and peers on adjacent teams to ensure designs meet project requirements and broader organizational needs.
Experience presenting designs to peers and leadership, including executive leadership, to demonstrate that design objectives have been met and to resolve technical concerns.
