A Senior Field Mechanical Engineer responsible for managing and troubleshooting complex assembly processes of the SPARC fusion reactor, including guiding technicians, designing tools, and collaborating with teams to ensure smooth construction and assembly of key components at the Devens, MA facility.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and oversee complex workstations in the SPARC assembly process.
Guide technicians through assembly issues and develop solutions to maintain workflow.
Procure, design, or build tools and fixtures required for assembly tasks.
Collaborate with adjacent teams to implement process changes and assist with precision alignment tasks.
Ensure smooth progression of the assembly process by managing day-to-day work strategies and work orders.
Solve complex engineering challenges that arise during assembly of large components.
Requirements
Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in assembly, fabrication, or related fields involving complex machinery or large-scale structures.
Have a bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related technical field.
Demonstrate experience in managing and overseeing complex assembly processes, including problem-solving and troubleshooting during assembly operations.
Proven ability to design, build, or procure small tools and fixtures quickly to support assembly tasks.
Experience collaborating closely with cross-functional teams such as process development, metrology, or engineering teams to incorporate process changes and provide necessary tools for precision alignment of coils and key structures.
Ability to work on-site at the CFS-2 facility in Devens, MA, and perform field work in a construction environment, including working in a central construction hall environment.
Strong organizational skills to manage day-to-day changes in strategy or work orders and ensure the assembly process moves smoothly.
Excellent problem-solving skills to address complex challenges that arise during the assembly process, including managing large parts and ensuring proper integration of multi-million dollar components.
Ability to guide and manage technicians and team members during assembly operations, providing technical oversight and support.
