The Staff Accountant at CGC is responsible for managing accounts payable, performing core accounting functions, and supporting month-end and year-end closing processes within a nonprofit environment, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and optimizing financial systems.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice intake, coding, approval workflows, and payments
Ensure expenses are properly classified according to nonprofit accounting standards, grant restrictions, and policies
Maintain vendor records, including W-9s, ACH information, and 1099 compliance
Collaborate with program and operations teams to resolve invoice discrepancies and ensure timely payments
Prepare and post journal entries such as accruals, prepaid expenses, and reclassifications
Perform monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations, resolving reconciling items promptly
Support month-end and year-end close processes to meet reporting deadlines
Assist in preparing financial statements, grant reports, and management reports
Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
Support audit processes by preparing schedules and documentation
Maintain internal controls over disbursements and expenses
Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy within financial systems and processes
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience
Five (5) years of accounting experience with accounts payable and general ledger responsibilities
Hands-on experience with NetSuite and expense platforms such as Ramp
Strong understanding of GAAP nonprofit accounting experience preferred
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Strong communication and customer-service mindset
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced dynamic environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial information
Authorization to work in the United States of America
