The Evening Shift Wind Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on wind turbines to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation, working under the supervision of site leads and contributing to overall site operations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in performing wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance.
Troubleshoot and repair wind turbine systems, including SCADA communication systems.
Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures.
Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools.
Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component repairs and replacements.
Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary.
Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor lower-level technicians in LOTO.
Work on balance of plant and switchyard operations as required.
Requirements
Follow safety procedures, observe safe working practices, and maintain a safe working environment.
Assist in the performance of wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance.
Document all work performed, parts used, and time spent using computer-based service reporting procedures.
Assist in troubleshooting and repair of SCADA communication systems.
Operate and maintain a service vehicle.
Maintain hand tools in good working order and well organized.
Work a flexible on-call schedule when needed, which may include weeknights, weekends, and holidays.
Willingness to progress as a technician and take guidance from superiors.
Help in all areas of site operations as directed by Site Lead and Site Manager with minimal supervision.
Troubleshoot complicated mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed wind turbines (for Level II and III).
Assist in the training and development of lower level operation and maintenance personnel (for Level II and III).
Perform all mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement to correct malfunctions (for Level II and III).
Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams (for Level II and III).
Use electrical test equipment to assist in troubleshooting and testing (for Level II and III).
Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary (for Level II and III).
Safely perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor lower level technicians in LOTO (for Level II and III).
Perform balance of plant and switchyard work as required (for Level II and III).
Possess a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to obtain a high school diploma or GED within the first 6 months of employment.
Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
Able to stand outside the nacelle and nosecone at the top of the turbine.
Able to work safely in a confined space.
Possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires.
Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
Able to travel as required.
Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
Able to communicate verbally and in writing and work without direct supervision during work performance.
Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
Additions for Level II: An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one-year wind turbine experience.
Additions for Level III: An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and two years turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three-year wind turbine experience.

Salary range: 45,000 - 90,000 USD depending on location, skills, experience, education, and certifications
