The Solar Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing solar PV systems to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operation of solar power plants, with varying responsibilities depending on experience level.
Key Responsibilities
Troubleshoot, maintain, service, and repair solar PV systems and associated equipment
Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance on solar equipment
Operate electrical and mechanical systems of the solar power plant
Complete work orders and documentation related to maintenance and operations
Ensure all work complies with environmental and safety regulations
Requirements
Possess a high school diploma or GED, or be willing to obtain a GED within the first 6 months of employment.
Demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
Understanding of general workplace safety and the ability to follow safety standards, as well as help the company improve upon the standards in place.
Ability to operate a computer with technical proficiency of standard business software.
Possess a valid state driver’s license and have a good driving record.
Ability to work overtime and non-standard working hours including nights, holidays, and weekends when needed.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-tasking team.
At least 1 year of experience in a power plant or PV Solar operations and maintenance (O&M) environment.
Experience with electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory, demonstrated through field experience or journeyman skills.
Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.
Four years of PV solar experience, including experience with electrical construction projects, or equivalent experience such as I E, I C, and/or C I Electrician experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals, including journeyman skills such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid state theory.
Knowledge of complex analog and digital instrumentation and control systems, including troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting instruments and control systems.
Experience administering safe methods to clear equipment, use of tools, and plant safety rules.
Understanding reporting procedures, maintenance procedures, and practices related to electrical and mechanical systems.
Knowledge of electrical and mechanical prints and PV solar plant terminology and nomenclature.
Qualified to perform routine and emergency operations at a solar generation facility and switchyard.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively.
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 5% of the time.
