Job Description

A Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems for pyrolysis technology in a climate-focused startup, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to improve biomass processing equipment and support production goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop next-generation pyrolysis mechanical systems
  • Implement, troubleshoot, and optimize mechanical systems in production
  • Collaborate with electrical, automation, manufacturing engineers, fabricators, and technicians
  • Select electromechanical components such as actuators, sensors, and pumps
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate mechanical systems
  • Update and modify legacy systems to incorporate new design pathways and subsystems
  • Provide troubleshooting support for production machines to meet throughput goals
  • Conduct root cause analysis for system performance issues

Requirements

  • Designing the next generation of pyrolysis technology and mechanical systems, including selecting electromechanical actuators, sensors, pumps, and continually improving pyrolysis and biomass processing equipment.
  • Implementing and troubleshooting mechanical systems in production to meet Charm’s overall production and throughput goals.
  • Collaborating with electrical, automation, manufacturing engineers, fabricators, and technicians to overcome design build test challenges and successfully execute commissioning and production handover campaigns.
  • Developing test plans to ensure mechanical systems meet overall design intent.
  • Updating the configuration of legacy systems to validate novel design pathways or new subsystems, informing the architecture of the next generation of pyrolysis equipment.
  • Providing troubleshooting support for production machines based on issues observed by Operations partners.
  • Turning wrenches to help bring designs to life and assist in the physical assembly or modification of mechanical systems.
  • Delivering robust mechanical solutions that work in the real world and taking pride in system performance.
  • Taking an analytical approach to problem solving and root cause analysis when systems are not performing as intended.
  • Having a great attitude in the face of difficult and fast-paced environments.
  • Possessing the ability to step out of one’s comfort zone when tackling new problems.
  • Reporting to the Lead Pyrolysis Engineer based out of Fort Lupton, Colorado.
