Job Description

The Senior Associate at CRA's Energy practice conducts research, analysis, and modeling related to power markets, transmission planning, and congestion management, providing data-driven insights and strategic advice to clients in the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage energy market and transmission analysis projects, including resource planning, regulatory policy, and market due diligence.
  • Operate and maintain nodal production cost and power flow models to analyze energy systems.
  • Conduct quantitative research, develop forecast scenarios, interpret results, and identify mitigation strategies for transmission issues.
  • Develop and vet industry-leading models through research, programming, and analysis for transaction support and utility planning.
  • Create presentations and reports to communicate complex findings clearly to clients.
  • Present findings and insights effectively to senior and mid-level client staff.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff in report production, analysis, and market research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Management, or related fields; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in markets and transmission planning, power flow analysis, nodal production cost analysis, and assessment of congestion basis-risk across Eastern RTO markets.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience directly managing or leading the work of others.
  • Fluency in power flow assessment packages such as PowerGEM TARA, GE-PSLF, PSS-E, or PowerWorld with at least 3 years of experience using these tools.
  • Fluency in nodal production cost models such as PROMOD, Aurora, Plexos, or Gridview with at least 3 years of experience using these models.
  • Knowledge of RTO and regional planning authority planning processes, including interconnection rules and regional reliability planning processes for PJM, MISO, and SPP.
  • Excellent presentation skills and writing ability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and willingness to provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff members.
  • Strong project management and client engagement skills.
