Job Description

The position involves providing expert economic and regulatory consulting services to utility clients in the energy sector, including advising on rate cases, utility transactions, and regulatory strategies, with opportunities for leadership, business development, and industry thought leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients in the regulated energy sector on utility regulation, rate cases, and industry strategies
  • Represent utilities and energy firms before regulators and in dispute resolutions
  • Support investors with complex transactions and energy grid planning
  • Provide expert testimony on state and federal rate cases
  • Lead technical aspects of utility regulatory projects and docketed proceedings
  • Manage and mentor consulting teams and junior staff
  • Develop and grow the practice through business development and client engagement

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of utility industry consulting experience, proven team leadership skills, and subject matter expertise with the capability to become trusted advisors to clients.
  • Experience in leading the critical technical aspects of utility rate cases, docketed proceedings, or similar regulatory matters.
  • Demonstrated success in one or more of the following practice areas: Utility revenue requirements, cost of capital, cost of service, or rate design.
  • Experience in project management involving all aspects of utility state and or federal rate cases and similar docketed proceedings.
  • Experience with alternative regulation including performance-based regulation, multi-year rate plans, energy decoupling, and incentive regulatory mechanisms.
  • Experience involving transactions with regulated utilities or infrastructure, or strategic advisory for utilities or owners of regulated infrastructure.
  • Relevant expertise acquired in consulting roles as well as in-house with utility companies, banks, developers, and regulatory agencies.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant financial, economics, or business discipline is required.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is strongly desired.
  • Ability to independently manage consulting teams and complex assignments with limited oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior staff.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex, technical concepts with impact.
  • Familiarity with ratemaking proceedings, disputes, or other docketed matters.
  • Comfort working in an unstructured environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and resourcefulness.
