Job Description
The position involves developing and managing power and natural gas market models, performing quantitative analysis, and providing strategic insights to clients in the energy sector, with opportunities for mentorship and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain power and natural gas market models, including capacity expansion, production cost, storage, reliability, and revenue requirement models.
- Develop and analyze market scenarios, evaluate energy technologies, calculate LCOEs, and run market simulations.
- Support engagements related to utility integrated resource plans, power plant and infrastructure due diligence, reliability assessments, and sector analysis.
- Conduct research, programming, and vetting to develop industry-leading models in reliability, resource adequacy, storage, and EV/DER penetration.
- Create presentations and reports to communicate complex findings to clients.
- Present analysis results to senior and mid-level client staff.
- Oversee junior staff in producing reports, presentations, and market analyses.
Requirements
- Prior experience in power and or natural gas market modeling using tools like AURORAxmp, PLEXOS, PROMOD, and Encompass with a minimum of two years of professional experience.
- Bachelor's degree in operations research, economics, computer science, finance, or engineering; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Experience in project and client management related to power and natural gas market modeling.
- Strong interest in and knowledge of power and natural gas market modeling and solving client challenges that depend on this modeling.
- Excellent presentation skills and writing ability.
- Strong problem solving abilities and resourcefulness.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and willingness to provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff members.
- Ability to develop and interpret power and gas market scenarios, evaluate new energy technologies, calculate Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOEs), and run market simulations.
- Experience acting as a principal custodian of energy market models, including capacity expansion models, production cost models, storage models, reliability models, and revenue requirement models.
- Experience managing and contributing to engagements involving utility integrated resource plans, commercial due diligence of power plants and energy infrastructure, reliability and RTO assessments, and other power and gas sector analysis.
- Ability to develop presentations and reports to share findings with clients on complex matters clearly and accurately.
- Experience presenting to senior- and mid-level staff of clients.
- Willingness and ability to work in a hybrid environment, spending at least 3 to 4 days a week in the office, with flexibility for travel to other CRA offices or client meetings.
