Job Description
The role involves providing expert analysis and strategic advice on U.S. electricity markets, including market design, regulatory implications, and interconnection strategies, to utilities, developers, and investors. The position requires deep knowledge of market structures, policies, and tools, with responsibilities spanning technical reporting, client engagement, and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert on North American electricity market structures, policies, and rules.
- Advise clients on the implications of market rule changes, including FERC filings, interconnection reforms, and capacity market design.
- Conduct strategic analyses of market participation pathways for generation, storage, hybrid resources, and demand-side technologies.
- Support clients in developing interconnection strategies, including navigating queue timelines and assessing network upgrade risks.
- Develop and review technical reports, white papers, and regulatory filings related to market design.
- Lead or support projects such as resource planning, market entry assessments, transmission analysis, and capacity strategy.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development through proposal writing and client engagement.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional experience in the electricity sector, with direct experience with ISO RTO markets such as CAISO, PJM, SPP, ERCOT, MISO, ISO-NE.
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree in a related field such as economics, engineering, public policy, or energy systems is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of market design and interconnection processes, including Generation and storage interconnection rules and timelines, Capacity market structures and performance requirements, and Energy market operations, bidding behavior, and congestion management.
- Experience working with or for utilities, grid operators, project developers, or market advisory firms.
- Experience with policy and regulatory engagement, such as participation in stakeholder processes or filings before FERC and state commissions, preferred.
- Exposure to modeling or analytics tools used in electricity markets such as PROMOD, PLEXOS, GridView, ABB, ISO data APIs, etc., preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting to both technical and executive audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities across client engagements.
