The Senior Associate Transmission Strategy and Planning at CRA is responsible for managing and executing transmission planning projects, providing technical analysis and strategic insights on power system and market issues, and supporting stakeholder engagement and regulatory processes within the energy sector.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the execution of transmission planning and strategy projects, including coordinating teams and ensuring quality and timelines.
Support transmission planning analyses such as regional/local planning, interconnection strategies, and transmission expansion evaluations.
Apply power system and market models to inform planning and investment decisions.
Conduct analysis of interconnection strategies, queue positioning, and cost allocation for utilities, developers, and large customers.
Analyze regulatory frameworks and planning processes, including RTO ISO planning and FERC policies.
Develop insights on transmission development, project economics, risk assessment, and rate implications.
Contribute to stakeholder processes, including regulatory proceedings and technical working groups.
Mentor junior team members and ensure high-quality analytical output.
Prepare client-ready deliverables such as presentations and memoranda.
Communicate complex findings clearly to clients and internal teams.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Engineering Economics, or a related field
5 to 8 years of experience in transmission planning, power system analysis, or electricity market modeling
Familiarity with RTO ISO transmission planning processes, interconnection procedures, and cost allocation frameworks
Experience with power system and market modeling tools such as PSS E, PSLF, PROMOD, Aurora, or similar, and the ability to translate results into actionable insights
Experience managing project workstreams or small teams within larger engagements
Exposure to working with utilities, developers, regulators, or large energy users on transmission-related issues
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex analyses into clear insights
Strong problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to structure and execute analyses on complex issues
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work in a team-oriented environment
