Job Description

The position involves providing expert economic and regulatory consulting services to utility clients in the energy sector, including advising on rate cases, regulation, transactions, and strategic planning, primarily within electric, gas, and water industries across North America and Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise clients in the regulated energy sector on issues related to utility regulation, finance, and transactions.
  • Represent utilities and energy firms before regulators and support dispute resolution.
  • Assist clients in planning and developing energy infrastructure and grid projects.
  • Provide expert testimony in regulatory proceedings and docketed hearings.
  • Manage and lead complex utility rate cases and regulatory proceedings.
  • Develop and analyze utility revenue requirements, cost of service, and rate design strategies.
  • Advise on alternative regulation mechanisms such as performance-based regulation and multi-year rate plans.
  • Support transactions involving regulated utilities or infrastructure assets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, acting as a trusted advisor and industry expert.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in the energy industry, including demonstrated success in utility revenue requirements, cost of service, and/or rate design.
  • Experience in project management of utility rate cases and similar proceedings.
  • Experience with alternative regulation, including performance-based regulation, multi-year rate plans, energy decoupling, and incentive regulatory mechanisms.
  • Experience involving transactions with regulated utilities or infrastructure.
  • Experience providing strategic advisory services for utilities or owners of regulated infrastructure.
  • Experience acquired in consulting roles as well as in-house with utility companies and state or federal regulators.
  • A bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline is required.
  • A master’s degree in the relevant discipline is desired.
  • Ability to independently manage consulting teams and complex assignments with limited oversight.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop junior staff.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience as a testifying witness is considered an advantage but not required.

Compensation/salary range: $175,000 - $250,000 annually, with potential bonus incentive compensation
