A Decarbonization Scientist responsible for evaluating and supporting the development of decarbonization technologies and strategies, with a focus on bioenergy, biochar, and related projects, to help clients reduce greenhouse gas emissions through scientific assessments and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Support scientific evaluations of decarbonization technologies and strategies, including BECCS, BiCRS, and biochar
Perform technical and operational due diligence on decarbonization projects to assess feasibility, risks, and impact
Conduct life cycle assessments to evaluate environmental performance and carbon accounting of projects
Evaluate biomass feedstock sourcing and supply chain considerations for environmental integrity
Develop expertise in climate science, technology, and policy relevant to decarbonization efforts
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate scientific insights into client recommendations
Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documents to communicate findings and recommendations
Stay updated on emerging trends and advancements in decarbonization science and technology
Requirements
Proven experience in conducting scientific research and assessments in the field of decarbonization, with a strong track record of published or disseminated work.
A Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Climate Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (not required, but nice to have).
Extensive knowledge of decarbonization technologies and strategies, including their technical, economic, and environmental aspects.
Ability to effectively interface with external clients and internal stakeholders, providing excellent, responsive service.
Specific expertise in Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) and biochar projects, including their development, implementation, and assessment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to conduct rigorous technical and financial evaluations.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis, modeling, and simulation.
Commitment to staying current with industry trends, scientific advancements, and best practices in decarbonization.
Experience in consulting or advisory roles, particularly in the climate or environmental sectors.
Project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
