Job Description
Canonical is seeking an Ubuntu Security Engineer to monitor, analyze, and address vulnerabilities in open source software, collaborating with global teams to enhance the security of Ubuntu and its ecosystem. The role involves security assessments, code reviews, developing security tools, and engaging with the open source community in a remote, international environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open source packages
- Track vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem from discovery to remediation
- Collaborate with internal teams and upstream developers to develop and exchange vulnerability patches
- Audit source code for security vulnerabilities
- Build features and tools to enhance the security of Ubuntu and its components
Requirements
- A thorough understanding of the common categories of security vulnerabilities and techniques for fixing them
- Familiarity with coordinated disclosure practices
- Familiarity with open source development tools and methodologies
- Skill in one or more of the following programming languages: C, Python, Go, Rust, Java, Ruby, PHP, or JavaScript TypeScript
- Excellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with the team and Ubuntu community members
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally at least twice a year for approximately one week each time
- Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
