Job Description

The role involves leading the Ubuntu Quality Engineering team to enhance the Linux distribution's quality through automation, data analysis, and best practices, while managing a team of engineers and collaborating across various development groups.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and monitor quality metrics for the Ubuntu Linux distribution
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve software quality and influence best practices
  • Develop and evangelize modern, agile software development and quality assurance practices
  • Set up and maintain continuous integration systems for Ubuntu deliverables
  • Lead and develop a high-performing quality engineering team
  • Implement automation, data analysis, and community feedback to enhance Ubuntu's quality
  • Drive quality excellence across Ubuntu Desktop, Server, Containers, and VM environments
  • Manage stakeholder expectations and advocate for quality improvements

Requirements

  • Experience as a software engineer with technical leadership experience, including leading, challenging, and developing strong engineers.
  • Proven experience in building large-scale software quality assurance frameworks.
  • Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background.
  • Technical knowledge of C, C++, Python programming, and Shell scripting.
  • Experience with quality processes and continuous integration tools and principles.
  • Ability to define and monitor quality metrics for a Linux distribution.
  • Experience setting and managing expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and evangelizing modern, agile software development practices.
  • Experience setting up and maintaining continuous integration for all supported deliverables.
  • Ability to develop and lead a team with a culture of high quality and performance.
  • Experience working in a global, distributed work environment, with the ability to work from home.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice per year for up to two weeks.
  • Strong understanding of Debian packaging and snaps (favorable but not mandatory).
