Job Description
The role involves leading the Ubuntu Quality Engineering team to enhance the Linux distribution's quality through automation, data analysis, and best practices, while managing a team of engineers and collaborating across various development groups.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and monitor quality metrics for the Ubuntu Linux distribution
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve software quality and influence best practices
- Develop and evangelize modern, agile software development and quality assurance practices
- Set up and maintain continuous integration systems for Ubuntu deliverables
- Lead and develop a high-performing quality engineering team
- Implement automation, data analysis, and community feedback to enhance Ubuntu's quality
- Drive quality excellence across Ubuntu Desktop, Server, Containers, and VM environments
- Manage stakeholder expectations and advocate for quality improvements
Requirements
- Experience as a software engineer with technical leadership experience, including leading, challenging, and developing strong engineers.
- Proven experience in building large-scale software quality assurance frameworks.
- Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background.
- Technical knowledge of C, C++, Python programming, and Shell scripting.
- Experience with quality processes and continuous integration tools and principles.
- Ability to define and monitor quality metrics for a Linux distribution.
- Experience setting and managing expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
- Experience developing and evangelizing modern, agile software development practices.
- Experience setting up and maintaining continuous integration for all supported deliverables.
- Ability to develop and lead a team with a culture of high quality and performance.
- Experience working in a global, distributed work environment, with the ability to work from home.
- Willingness to travel internationally twice per year for up to two weeks.
- Strong understanding of Debian packaging and snaps (favorable but not mandatory).
