Job Description

The Telco Field Engineer at Canonical is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting open source cloud and network solutions for telecommunications providers, focusing on technologies like OpenStack, Kubernetes, and NFV/CNF frameworks to enable 5G and future network innovations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement telco-grade open source multi-tenant private clouds and micro clouds
  • Match customer requirements to capabilities in VNF, CNF, NFVi, NFVO, VNFM, VIM, and MEC spaces
  • Provide technical pre-sales consulting to Service Provider teams
  • Deploy cloud solutions such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, MAAS, and Ceph for customers
  • Investigate, report, and fix software defects during customer deployments
  • Demonstrate infrastructure as code (IaC) techniques using tools like Terraform and scripting
  • Assist customers in adopting advanced Bare Metal, Public, Private, and Hybrid Cloud solutions
  • Lead complex projects from start to finish

Requirements

  • Intermediate level Python software development experience
  • Terraform automation experience
  • A thorough understanding of the telco NFVi VIM, NFVO, VNFM, and MEC space
  • Technical understanding of key telco technologies like CPU Pinning, NUMA, SRIOV, DPDK, etc.
  • A thorough working understanding of the architectures and infrastructure of Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Communications Service Providers (CSPs)
  • Working knowledge of Mobile Packet Core, Radio, VAS, OSS BSS
  • Understanding of best practices for open source technology in telco virtualization
  • Working knowledge of Linux, OpenStack, and Kubernetes networking
  • Ability to lead complex projects from start to finish
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time for events, customer meetings, and project delivery
