Job Description
A leadership role focused on developing and managing open source Linux-based solutions for the automotive and industrial sectors, ensuring compliance with industry standards, guiding a global engineering team, and representing Canonical in industry communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Refine and execute the automotive engineering strategy and roadmap at Canonical
- Lead and coordinate a globally distributed engineering team
- Represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the automotive community, including standards consortia
- Guide Linux distribution and open source software strategy for automotive applications
- Ensure products and processes comply with automotive and industrial standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, IEC 61508
- Develop skills within the team through coaching and technical leadership
- Manage expectations and collaborate with other engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders
- Advocate for modern, agile software development practices
- Develop and promote a healthy, collaborative engineering culture
Requirements
- Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background
- In-depth knowledge in Linux packages and embedded development
- Knowledge of automotive and industry standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508, and ideally have led product development initiatives that fulfilled compliance with one or more of the mentioned standards
- Experience in C, C++, and Python programming
- Practical experience in automotive, including functional safety, embedded systems, cloud, and related software trends
- Experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
- Track record of timely delivery and high quality software
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Ability to build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers, coordinate, guide, and oversee their work
- Ability to develop skills through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership
- Ability to represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the automotive community, in front of customers, partners, and standards consortia
- Ability to define and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team at Canonical
- Ability to advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices
- Ability to help develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
- Willingness to work from home with international travel twice a year, up to two weeks at a time, for company events
