Job Description
A Technical Manager role focused on leading engineering efforts in automotive and industrial open source solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards, guiding product development, and representing Canonical in relevant communities while managing a global team remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Refine and execute the automotive engineering strategy and roadmap for Canonical.
- Lead and coordinate a globally distributed engineering team, providing technical guidance and coaching.
- Represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the automotive community, including industry standards and consortia.
- Lead Linux distribution and open source software strategy for automotive applications.
- Ensure products and processes comply with automotive and industrial standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, IEC 61508, and others.
- Develop and promote modern, agile software development practices within the team.
- Collaborate with product management to align vision and strategy for automotive solutions.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and foster a collaborative engineering culture.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering, Linux, and open source background
- In-depth knowledge in Linux packages and embedded development
- Knowledge of automotive and industry standards such as ISO21434, ISO26262, SOTIF, IEC 61508, and ideally have led product development initiatives that fulfilled compliance with one or more of the mentioned standards
- Experience in C, C++, and Python programming
- Practical experience in automotive, including functional safety, embedded systems, cloud, and related software trends
- Experience leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers
- Track record of timely delivery and high quality software
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Ability to develop and grow people through coaching, feedback, and hands-on technical leadership
- Ability to represent Canonical and Ubuntu in the automotive community, in front of customers, partners, and standards consortia
- Ability to build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers, coordinate, guide, and oversee their work
- Ability to define and execute an engineering roadmap for the automotive team at Canonical
- Ability to advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices
- Willingness to work from home with international travel twice a year, up to two weeks at a time, for company events
