Job Description
A System Software Engineer role focused on developing and optimizing GCC and LLVM compiler toolchains for Ubuntu, working on modern programming language ecosystems, and enhancing the developer experience across various Ubuntu platforms in a remote, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a distributed team to develop and improve compiler toolchains for Ubuntu.
- Select, integrate, and package tooling to enhance developer and operator experience with GCC and LLVM.
- Write high-quality code to implement new features and debug issues in compiler runtimes and tooling.
- Review code contributions from other engineers and participate in design discussions.
- Work with other teams to optimize architecture decisions for performance and user experience across Ubuntu platforms.
Requirements
- Relevant experience with GCC or LLVM, ideally in the world of cloud-native software and Linux
- Experience in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu
- Experience working with Linux distributions
- Strong competencies in modern C and C++ programming languages
- Excellent understanding of software architectures and open source software
- Ability to write high-quality code to create new features, debug issues, and produce high-quality fixes
- Experience collaborating proactively with a distributed team
- Ability to review code produced by other engineers and participate in design reviews
- Experience discussing design ideas and collaborating on solutions
- Experience working on toolchains involved in the making of Ubuntu and the modern software ecosystem
- Academic track record from high school and university, with an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling alternative narrative
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with trips lasting up to two weeks
- Excellent soft skills including being passionate, curious, flexible, articulate, accountable, thoughtful, self-motivated, and enterprising
