Job Description
A senior security operations engineer responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving security practices, tools, and policies to protect Canonical's infrastructure and products, while contributing to open source threat intelligence and security community efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and evolve security standards, playbooks, and security architecture for Canonical.
- Analyze security infrastructure to identify, contain, and remediate threats and cyber attacks.
- Evaluate, select, and deploy security tools and practices to enhance security posture.
- Contribute to threat intelligence initiatives and share knowledge through industry engagement.
- Develop and conduct threat modeling, tabletop exercises, and other SecOps practices across teams.
- Create security learning and development materials, and publish related content such as blogs and whitepapers.
- Track and improve SecOps KPIs to measure security effectiveness.
- Plan and execute SecOps activities within an agile engineering framework.
- Collaborate with security leadership to influence security strategies and practices.
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating equivalent knowledge and skills.
- Deep personal motivation to be at the forefront of technology security.
- Expertise in threat modelling and risk management frameworks.
- Knowledge of security architecture and market-leading security tools.
- Experience contributing to, and consuming, threat intelligence feeds.
- Experience in security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF.
- Experience with security standards such as ISO 27001.
- Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations.
- Experience in a security operations team or a security operations centre (SOC).
- Experience in offensive or defensive security teams with hands-on ability.
- Ability to identify, contain, and guide the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks.
- Ability to analyze and improve security architecture.
- Ability to evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices.
- Ability to develop and contribute to security standards, playbooks, and learning materials.
- Ability to plan and deliver SecOps work within an agile engineering framework.
- Ability to contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives.
- Ability to drive threat modelling, tabletop exercises, and other SecOps practices across engineering and security teams.
- Excellent communication skills to work with security leadership and influence change.
