Job Description
A Software Support Engineer at Canonical works on troubleshooting, resolving, and upstreaming issues related to Ubuntu and various open source technologies such as Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, and Ceph, supporting enterprise customers and contributing to the open source community in a remote, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Resolve complex customer issues related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes
- Maintain close collaboration with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams
- Participate in upstream open source communities to develop bug fixes and patches
- Review code produced by other engineers
- Troubleshoot and address software issues at various levels of the stack, including upstream bug fixes
- Prioritize and manage work effectively to meet deadlines
- Contribute to process, tool, and documentation improvements through team discussions
Requirements
- Resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes and other open source software
- Maintain a close working relationship with Canonical s Field, Support and product engineering teams
- Participate in upstream communities
- Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and work with upstream for inclusion
- Review code produced by other engineers
- Demonstrate good judgment in technical methods and techniques
- Prioritize work and manage your time effectively against those priorities
- Participate in team discussions to improve processes, tools, and documentation
- Maintain clear, technical and concise communications
- Work from home and travel internationally up to 10% of work time for team meetings, events and conferences
- Have an academic background with an exceptional academic track record
- Possess a background in Computer Science, STEM or similar field
- Have experience with Linux and open source software
- Have experience with at least one of Python, Go, C or C++ on Linux
- Have a drive to learn unfamiliar technology and deep-dive difficult issues
- Be willing to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
