Job Description

Canonical is seeking engineering managers to lead and develop engineering teams focused on optimizing Ubuntu for various hardware platforms, driving technical excellence, and collaborating with open source communities and industry partners in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and develop a team of engineers across various experience levels
Oversee project delivery and support timely achievement of milestones
Serve as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving system architectures
Implement disciplined engineering processes and optimize platform software
Review code and technical documentation to ensure quality and performance
Contribute to technical leadership within the company and external communities
Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders on strategy and execution
Drive engineering practices, documentation, and quality improvements

Requirements

An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
Fluency in C, C++, and Python programming languages
Experience with Linux and operational systems software such as kernel or user space
Experience with Debian, Ubuntu, or other Linux distribution packaging
Experience leading software engineering teams
Professional written and spoken English proficiency
Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation
Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
Result-oriented approach with a personal drive to meet commitments
Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, each up to two weeks long
