Canonical is seeking engineering managers to lead and develop engineering teams focused on optimizing Ubuntu for various hardware platforms, driving technical excellence, and collaborating with open source communities and industry partners in a remote, globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of engineers across various experience levels
Oversee project delivery and support timely achievement of milestones
Serve as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving system architectures
Implement disciplined engineering processes and optimize platform software stacks
Integrate and maintain Ubuntu on latest hardware platforms
Contribute to code reviews and technical documentation
Collaborate with leadership and other teams on strategy and technical delivery
Represent the team and product from a technical perspective
Drive healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality, and performance improvements
Requirements
Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to senior, and oversee their technical and career development.
Oversee commercial engagements and support timely delivery on agreed project milestones.
Participate as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architectures.
Implement disciplined engineering processes to ensure quality and efficiency.
Integrate and maintain platform-oriented software stacks for Ubuntu.
Optimize Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms including x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x, and POWER systems.
Display technical leadership internally and within external communities, including contributing to code reviews and technical documentation.
Be an active part of the leadership team, collaborating with other leaders on strategy and execution.
Possess an exceptional academic track record from high school and university, or a compelling narrative about an alternative educational path.
Hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM fields, or demonstrate equivalent experience.
Be fluent in C, C++, and Python programming languages.
Have experience with Linux and operational systems software such as kernel or user space components.
Have experience with Debian, Ubuntu, or other Linux distribution packaging.
Have experience leading software engineering teams.
Possess professional written and spoken English communication skills.
Have confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation.
Be thoughtful and self-motivated.
Be result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
Be willing and able to travel internationally twice a year for company events, each lasting up to two weeks.
