Job Description
Canonical is seeking engineering managers to lead and develop engineering teams focused on optimizing Ubuntu for the latest hardware platforms, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and collaborating with open source communities and industry partners in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of engineers across various experience levels
- Oversee project delivery and support timely achievement of milestones
- Serve as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving system architectures
- Implement disciplined engineering processes and optimize platform software
- Review code and technical documentation to ensure quality standards
- Contribute to technical leadership within the company and external communities
- Drive healthy engineering practices, documentation, and performance optimizations
- Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders on strategy and execution
- Develop engineering talent and provide career guidance
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience and skills
- Fluency in C, C++, and Python programming languages
- Experience with Linux and operational systems software such as kernel or user space
- Experience with Debian, Ubuntu, or other Linux distribution packaging
- Experience leading software engineering teams
- Professional written and spoken English skills
- Confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation
- Thoughtfulness and self-motivation
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with each trip up to two weeks long
