Canonical is seeking an engineering manager to lead and develop a remote team of engineers working on open source cloud infrastructure technologies, with a focus on microservice architectures, Linux, virtualization, storage, and networking.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a remote engineering team
Develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and career development
Set and manage expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
Engage with internal teams, the open source community, and partners
Ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely software solutions
Advocate for and implement modern software development practices
Requirements
Experience in leading successful, collaborative engineering teams and demonstrating the ability to solve challenging distributed systems problems.
Deep knowledge of Linux, including modern Linux cloud computing technologies such as networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes (K8s).
Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
Experience in developing and growing engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
Ability to lead, challenge, and develop engineers, positively influence team culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work with the team on strategy and execution.
Experience leading remote engineering teams and managing expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
Proficiency in programming in C and/or Go.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a distributed work environment, with willingness to travel 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
