Job Description
Canonical is seeking an engineering manager to lead and develop a remote team of engineers working on open source cloud infrastructure, focusing on microservice architectures, Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Set and manage expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
- Engage with internal teams, the open source community, and partners
- Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software
- Advocate for and implement modern software development practices
Requirements
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
- Experience leading successful, collaborative engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to solve challenging distributed systems problems.
- Deep knowledge of Linux.
- Solid technical background with experience in software engineering.
- Experience in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership.
- Experience leading, challenging, and developing engineers, and positively influencing team culture.
- Ability to develop talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Experience with modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes (K8s).
- Proficiency in programming in C and/or Go.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to work remotely in EMEA or the Americas, with willingness to travel 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
