Job Description
Canonical is seeking an engineering manager to lead and develop a remote team of engineers working on open source cloud infrastructure, focusing on microservice architectures, Linux, virtualization, storage, and networking technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Set and manage expectations with other teams, management, and stakeholders
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
- Engage with internal teams, the open source community, and partners
- Drive the delivery of high-quality software and ensure timely project completion
Requirements
- Experience in leading successful, collaborative engineering teams and demonstrating the ability to solve challenging distributed systems problems.
- Deep knowledge of Linux, including modern Linux cloud computing technologies such as networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering.
- Experience in developing and growing engineering talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Proven track record of delivering timely, high-quality software.
- Experience programming in C and/or Go.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to lead, challenge, and develop engineers, positively influence team culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution.
- Ability to work remotely with the flexibility to travel for 4 to 6 weeks per year for internal and external events.
