Job Description
Canonical is seeking an engineering manager to lead and develop a remote team of engineers working on open source cloud infrastructure technologies, with a focus on Linux, virtualization, storage, and networking, to deliver high-quality software and foster a collaborative, innovative culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Set and manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and stakeholders
- Participate in the engineering process through code and architectural reviews
- Engage with internal teams, open source community, and partners
- Ensure the successful delivery of high-quality software
Requirements
- Experience in leading successful, collaborative engineering teams and solving challenging distributed systems problems with deep knowledge of Linux.
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
- Solid technical background with experience in high-quality microservice architectures and high-performance team leadership.
- Deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage, and networking.
- Understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, containers, and Kubernetes (K8s).
- Experience programming in C and/or Go.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills.
- Ability to lead, challenge, and develop engineers, and to influence team culture positively.
- Experience developing talent through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and hands-on career development.
- Ability to set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to work remotely with the ability to travel for internal and external events for 4 to 6 weeks per year.
