A Software Engineer at Canonical will develop and automate Linux-based cloud infrastructure, build and enhance Ubuntu features for cloud environments, and collaborate with global partners to improve Ubuntu's performance and integration in modern workloads.
Key Responsibilities
Build automated, reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
Design, develop, and integrate new features into Ubuntu for public cloud support
Collaborate with a distributed team and external partners
Write high-quality code to create new features and fix issues
Design and architect complex systems and cloud integrations
Debug and troubleshoot system issues
Review code from other engineers and participate in design discussions
Requirements
Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
Practical experience with public clouds
Experience with at least three of the following: containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), DevOps automation, open source projects, APIs, Linux systems administration, Python packaging, cloud-based applications
At least experience in Python software development on Linux
Ability to build automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
Ability to design, build, and integrate new features and enhancements into Ubuntu to support users in public clouds
Proactive collaboration with a distributed team
Ability to write high-quality code to create new features
Ability to design and architect complex new systems and integrations with the clouds
Debugging skills to identify and fix issues, producing high-quality code
Experience reviewing code produced by other engineers and participating in design discussions
Willingness to work from home with global travel of 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events
