Job Description
A Software Engineer at Canonical will develop and automate Linux-based cloud infrastructure, build and enhance Ubuntu features for cloud environments, and collaborate with global partners to improve Ubuntu's cloud platform capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Build automated, reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
- Design, build, and integrate new features into Ubuntu for public cloud support
- Collaborate with a distributed team and external partners
- Write high-quality code to develop new features and fix issues
- Design and architect complex systems and cloud integrations
- Debug issues and produce solutions to improve system reliability
- Review code from other engineers and participate in design discussions
Requirements
- Practical experience with public clouds
- Experience in Python software development on Linux
- Experience with build system development using Python, Jenkins, and shell scripting
- Experience in designing, building, and integrating new features and enhancements into Ubuntu that support users in public clouds
- Experience in building automated, highly reliable image delivery, testing, and publication pipelines
- Experience in debugging issues and producing high quality code to fix them
- Experience in reviewing code produced by other engineers and participating in design discussions
- Ability to work from home with global travel of 2 to 4 weeks for internal and external events
- A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
- Interest and experience with at least three of the following: containers (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.), DevOps automation, open source projects, APIs, Linux systems administration, Python packaging, cloud-based applications
