Job Description

A Site Reliability Engineer at Canonical is responsible for deploying, managing, and optimizing open source infrastructure such as OpenStack and Kubernetes, focusing on automation, monitoring, and incident management to ensure high-quality, mission-critical services for global customers in a remote work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy and operate OpenStack, Kubernetes, storage solutions, and open source applications using DevOps practices
  • Identify and address incidents, monitor applications, and anticipate potential issues to ensure high-quality standards
  • Automate operations through software engineering, leveraging metrics and code to scale infrastructure
  • Work across the entire infrastructure stack from bare-metal networking and kernels to containers and open source applications
  • Gain and apply expertise in cloud technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, and related open source tools

Requirements

  • Degree in software engineering or computer science
  • Python software development experience
  • Operational experience in Linux environments
  • Experience with Kubernetes deployment or operations
  • Ability to work in operations with mission-critical services for global brand-name customers
  • Strong background in Linux, Python, networking, and knowledge of how clouds work
  • Work experience encompassing the entire stack, from bare-metal networking and kernel up to Kubernetes and open source applications
  • Willingness to be trained in core technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, security standards, open source products like Kubeflow, Kafka, OpenSearch, databases, and others
  • Ability to deploy and run OpenStack, Kubernetes, storage solutions, and open source applications applying DevOps practices
  • Fluency in Python as a software engineer
  • Genuine interest in the full open source infrastructure stack from bare metal to containers
  • Ability to work in operations with mission-critical services for global brand-name customers
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with each trip up to two weeks long
