Job Description
A software engineer role focused on maintaining and developing Ubuntu Server packages, collaborating within a distributed team to enhance open source software for enterprise cloud, data science, AI, and IoT applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate proactively within a distributed team to develop and maintain Ubuntu Server packages.
- Evaluate contributions from other engineers to ensure high-quality software standards.
- Shape the future of Ubuntu by contributing new ideas and advising on ongoing work.
- Work with upstream projects, community teams, and customers to support and improve Ubuntu.
- Own the maintenance of Ubuntu Server packages, including web servers, databases, virtualization, and containerization stacks.
Requirements
- Able to replay complex workloads and systems.
- Able to write detailed test plans and reproducibility steps.
- Feel comfortable contributing and debugging many languages such as C, C++, Python, Rust, Go, Ruby, PHP.
- Experience in packaging in one or more ecosystems, such as language-specific systems like Python wheels, Rust Crates, Go Modules, or other equivalent formats, or distro package formats like deb, rpm, NixOS, or other equivalent.
- Experience using and creating containers and virtual machines.
- Have a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field or any higher or equivalent professional experience.
- Have at least 5 years of professional experience.
