A software engineering role focused on developing and shaping the MAAS (Metal As A Service) platform to enable scalable, cloud-ready bare metal provisioning, requiring collaboration with global teams and expertise in open source technologies, networking, and system automation.
Key Responsibilities
Develop core components and features of MAAS to enhance its scalability, performance, and usability
Shape and simplify the architecture of MAAS for better efficiency and user experience
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and timely releases of MAAS
Contribute to continuous integration, testing, and documentation to maintain high-quality standards
Provide technical communication and collaboration with other teams to support project goals
Take ownership of technical problems and drive them to resolution
Requirements
Solid track record of professional software development experience in Python, Go for back-end roles, or TypeScript, React for front-end roles.
Experience with Linux server technologies, including but not limited to Virtualization KVM, Containers LXC, etc.
Knowledge of network technologies, including PXE, DHCP, TFTP, DNS, NTP.
Some experience with Baseboard Management Controllers and Protocols such as Redfish, IPMI, AMT, and others.
Strong experience with networking, storage technologies, and Cloud hosting and infrastructure.
Ideally, experience of large-scale physical server provisioning and automation, including rapid deployment, configuration, management, and service orchestration.
Familiarity with open source development tools and methodologies used in creation of Ubuntu projects such as MAAS, Juju, Ubuntu Server, LXD, Ubuntu Core, Launchpad, Debian packaging tools APT, dpkg, and snapcraft.
A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field.
Excellent logic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
Capacity to learn quickly about new systems and techniques.
Strong English language communication skills, both written and verbal.
Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for internal events.
Personal ownership of problems and drive to resolve them.
Ability to shape and develop architecture to make MAAS simpler, faster, and easier to use.
Ability to develop MAAS core components and features to make MAAS the leading bare metal cloud system.
Ability to collaborate with other teams to ensure MAAS integrates well with other tools and is released on time.
Contribute to documentation and improve existing features to create a world-class resource for Data Centre operators and users.
Provide technical communication and collaboration with other teams where appropriate.
