Job Description
A Senior Site Reliability GitOps Engineer at Canonical is responsible for developing automation and infrastructure as code solutions to support and maintain Canonical's IT production services, primarily focusing on cloud and distributed systems, while collaborating with global teams to improve operational efficiency and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain Canonical's IT production services, including core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Drive automation development and implement GitOps practices as an embedded technical lead.
- Design and architect services to be offered as products within the organization.
- Develop infrastructure as code (IaC) practices to increase automation and improve processes.
- Automate software operations for reusability and consistency across private and public clouds.
- Troubleshoot, perform capacity planning, and conduct performance investigations of systems.
- Set up, maintain, and utilize observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch for monitoring and alerting.
- Collaborate with distributed engineering, operations, and support teams to deliver services.
- Mentor team members, share best practices, and participate in design sessions.
- Manage time-critical escalations and ensure operational reliability of services.
Requirements
- Proven experience of IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and a passion for technology.
- Experience in automating software operations for re-usability and consistency across private and public clouds, considering the complexities of distributed systems.
- Experience developing infrastructure as code practices within an organization to increase automation and improve IaC processes.
- Hands-on experience with Python software development, including large projects.
- Experience working with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems.
- Proven exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Affinity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to Databases.
- Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree or greater, preferably in computer science or a related engineering field.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English over email, chat, video or voice calls, and in person.
- Motivated and able to troubleshoot from kernel to web, and willing to ask others when appropriate.
- Willingness to be flexible and able to learn new things quickly.
- Ability to work within distributed teams and adapt to fast-changing environments.
- Familiarity and passion for open-source projects, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
