Job Description

The Security Operations Engineer at Canonical is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving security practices and tools to protect the company's infrastructure and products, while also contributing to open source threat intelligence and security community efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and evolve Canonical's Security Operations Center (SOC) capabilities
  • Analyze and improve Canonical's security architecture
  • Evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices
  • Identify, contain, and guide the remediation of security threats and cyber attacks
  • Contribute to open source threat intelligence initiatives
  • Drive threat modeling, tabletop exercises, and other SecOps practices across teams
  • Develop and deliver SecOps learning and development materials
  • Publish security-related content such as blog posts, whitepapers, and conference presentations
  • Plan and track SecOps KPIs
  • Collaborate with security leadership to present information and influence security strategies

Requirements

  • Deep professional experience working or leading a Security Operation Center (SOC), with a proven track record in security operations, threat detection, and incident response.
  • An exceptional academic track record or a compelling narrative about an alternative educational or career path demonstrating relevant skills and knowledge.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM fields, or equivalent experience and skills demonstrating a strong foundation in security principles.
  • Previous professional experience working or leading a Security Operation Center (SOC).
  • Deep personal motivation to be at the forefront of technology security and cyber defense.
  • Expertise in threat modelling and risk management frameworks such as NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) and ISO27001.
  • Knowledge of security architecture and familiarity with market-leading security tools and technologies.
  • Experience contributing to, and consuming, threat intelligence feeds and sharing threat intelligence with the wider community.
  • Experience in security risk management frameworks such as NIST CSF and ISO27001.
  • Ability to analyze and improve security architecture, evaluate, select, and implement new security tools and practices.
  • Experience in offensive or defensive security teams with hands-on ability to identify, contain, and remediate security threats and cyber attacks.
  • Experience with state-actor and other advanced persistent threats (APTs).
